Landscape and the elemental forces of nature have been major inspirations in the work of John Maxwell Steele.
His visual interpretation of the remote place whilst searching for the principles of emptiness, calm simplicity and chance in order to establish an inner tension in his compositions.
Dramatic moments in nature inspire both mixed media works on paper and on canvas.
More recently sculpture add to the wide range of techniques he employs.

As well as exhibiting in both highly reputable private galleries and collections, the artist's paintings have also been exhibited at numerous art fairs since the late 1990's.
